Julian L.
Carr
Julian joined Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company as Partner and
Senior Executive Advisor in January 2004. He served as
Chairman and CEO of Valitás Health Services, a leading
healthcare services provider and a BPOC portfolio company,
from January 1997 to May 2002, and served as non-executive
Chairman until 2004. Previously, Julian served as Executive
Vice President of ARAMARK Corporation and President of
ARAMARK's Health and Education Services sector (parent of
Valitás, formerly Spectrum Healthcare Services) and as an
executive with American Hospital Supply Corporation.
Julian serves or has served on the board of directors of
DentalCare Partners, Inc., Hu-Friedy Mfg. Co., Living
Centers of America, Inc. (NYSE), The MED Group, Medcor
Holdings, Inc., Sanford-Brown, Inc., TIDI Products, Valitás
Health Services, Inc. and VHA, Inc.
Julian is a 1968 honors graduate of the University of Tulsa
with a B.S. degree in economics. He earned an M.B.A. degree,
also with honors, from Indiana University in 1970.
Earl V. DeCarli
Earl DeCarli serves as Group Vice President, Hill-Rom
Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HRC), a $1.5 billion, publicly traded
provider of medical technologies and related services
including patient support systems and non-invasive
therapeutic products. With Corporate Headquarters in
Batesville, Indiana, Hill-Rom employs more than 6,000 people
globally.
Earl has 27 years of experience in the healthcare industry
with a successful track record in leading businesses through
complex start up, turnaround and high-growth cycles as well
as US and international corporate development, channel and
brand management. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, Earl held a
variety of general management positions with Baxter
Healthcare, Elekta Instruments AB, Welch Allyn, Inc., and
most recently as President & CEO of The Hygenic Corporation,
a BPOC portfolio company which was successfully sold in
April 2007.
Earl graduated with distinction and received his BA in
History from the Virginia Military Institute. He spent the
first several years of his career teaching and coaching in
the Lynchburg, Virginia public school system and later at
the University of Virginia.
Earl is a former 2nd Vice President of the Board of Trustees
for the Auburn Memorial Hospital, Auburn, NY. He currently
serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Reichert,
Inc. and is also a member of the Beecken Petty O'Keefe &
Company Executive Advisory Board.
Scott R. Kabbes
Scott serves as an Executive Advisor to Beecken Petty
O'Keefe and Company. He served as President of Patterson
Dental Supply (NASDAQ: PDCO) from May 2002 through December
2005. Previously, Scott was the founder and CEO of
EagleSoft, Inc, a dental practice management software
company (acquired by Patterson Companies in 1997) and as
President of Professionals' Software Company (a subsidiary
of Colgate Palmolive.).
Scott serves on the board of managers for TIDI Products,
Scrip Product Corporation, Heartland Dental Care and is also
a member of the Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company Executive
Advisory Board.
Anthony K. Kesman
Mr. Kesman began his career with American Hospital Supply
Corporation’s distribution division, holding positions of
increasing responsibility at successor companies Baxter
International, Allegiance Healthcare, and Cardinal Health.
Mr. Kesman currently serves on the boards of directors of
BarrierSafe Solutions International, Drayer Physical Therapy
Institute, Focused Health Solutions, and Suture Express.
Previously, he served as a founding director of Source
Medical Corporation, Canada’s largest medical supply
distributor, as well as two terms as a director of the
Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) Educational
Foundation. He is also a member of the board of Children’s
Memorial Medical Center, Lake Forest Hospital, Junior
Achievement of Chicago, the Multiple Myeloma Research
Foundation and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
Mr. Kesman holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of
Management, Northwestern University and a Bachelor of
Business Administration from the University of Iowa.
Stephen F. Meyer
Steve Meyer is President of USA/Canada for Welch Allyn, Inc.
He has been employed in a variety of positions with Welch
Allyn since 1981. He has 29 years experience in marketing,
sales, product development and international business
management in medical, surgical & specialty medical
businesses.
Steve is a past president of the Healthcare Manufacturers
Marketing Council, now serves on the board of directors for
the Health Industry Distributors Association (“HIDA”)
Foundation, and is Chairman of MedTech, Upstate New York’s
medical technology & biosciences association. He also serves
on the board of directors of TIDI Products, LLC and is a
member of the Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company Executive
Advisory Board.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Alma College
in Michigan, where he now serves as a Trustee. He received
his MBA in general management from the University of
Rochester in New York.
Michael L. Smith
Prior to joining Anthem, Mike was Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Mayflower Group, Inc. from 1989
to 1995. Mayflower operated a worldwide relocation service
and provided school and public passenger transportation in
30 states. He held various other management positions at
Mayflower from 1974 to 1989. He started his business career
in the Indianapolis office of Arthur Andersen & Co.
following his graduation from DePauw University in 1970.
Mike serves on several Boards of Directors including Kite
Realty Group Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT),
Emergency Medical Services Corporation, Inc., the nation’s
largest emergency medical services provider, Vectren
Corporation, and HH Gregg Appliances, Inc. He also serves on
the boards of Finishmaster, Inc. and its parent, Ldi Ltd.,
Lockton Inc., the world’s largest, privately owned,
insurance brokerage and advisory firm and Carestream Health,
Inc. Mike serves or has served on the board of several BPOC
portfolio companies, including Valitás Health Services,
Inc., TakeCare Health Systems, Inc. and Preferred Homecare
and is also a member of the Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company
Executive Advisory Board.
Mike has served as a Director of several charitable and
civic organizations and is currently serving on the Board of
the Central Indiana Community Foundation. He is a member of
the Board of Trustees of DePauw University, the Indiana
Commission for Higher Education and Lumina Foundation for
Education.
Mike is a founding member of Cardinal Equity Partners, a
mid-market private equity investment fund headquartered in
Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mike and his wife, Sue, reside in Carmel, Indiana.
