BPOC established an investment thesis in the staffing sector based on experience gained through investments in the outsourced emergency medicine management businesses. As part of the thesis development process, BPOC was introduced to the Medicus management team in 2012, and when Medicus pursued a recapitalization in 2018, BPOC was one of a handful of buyers contacted during the process.

Human Capital

During the first two years of BPOC’s involvement, Medicus elevated Bob Dickey from COO to CEO, and recruited a new CIO with significant experience in digital transformation. Additionally, Medicus established a Chief People Officer role that was filled by an internal promotion.

Growth

Medicus restructured its sales and recruiting strategy to focus on key geographies by specialty, leveraging existing client and provider relationships. In addition, Medicus expanded its unique “Transitions” offering (whereby Medicus partners with clients as a wholesale temporary staffing solution) to deepen client relationships and establish a dedicated go-to-market effort focused on core relationships and national accounts.

Technology and Operations

BPOC and Medicus management executed a significant digital modernization, including implementing a new CRM and Applicant Tracking System. Leveraging the new technology infrastructure, Medicus was able to redesign its sales and recruiting function for increased efficiency and significantly higher sales and recruiter productivity. Medicus also implemented a continuous improvement group to lead Lean initiatives across the organization.
